In May 1998, the Board of Regents approved a policy on Internal Controls. One component of that policy calls for the development of risk assessment practices that mitigate operational, financial and compliance risks. Insurance is one way to minimize those risks but there are many others such as hiring qualified employees, good training programs and having adequate equipment.
